This page of my website will be devoted to examining the dynamics that exist between two people in a relationship as seen by numerology. Periodically, I will compare the numerological charts of two (or more) famous people.

     ANNA NICOLE SMITH met elderly billionaire J. HOWARD MARSHALL in October 1991. As everyone knows, they enjoyed a three plus year relationship and were married on June 27, 1994. What would a 26 year old see in an octogenarian? Obviously, according to the census of opinion and gossip in 1994, she must have married him for his money.

    But what does numerology say about their relationship?  Take a look at Anna Nicole's birth date, November 28, 1967.  People born on the 28th are inclined to have unconventional relationships. Eyebrows were raised when JACKIE KENNEDY (7/28/1929) married Aristotle Onassis. likewise, when actress JULIA ROBERTS (10/28/1967) married singer Lyle Lovett. People were also perplexed when the poet WILLIAM BLAKE (11/28/1757) married an illiterate girl, Catherine Boucher in 1792. As you can see by the above, people have been gossiping about the relationships formed by those born on the 28th for centuries. We can just add Anna Nicole's name to the list.

     Anna Nicole maintained that she loved her husband and that age didn't matter to her. Can we give her the benefit of the doubt in this instance? What we do know for sure, is that J.Howard Marshall wasn't hurt by his relationship with Anna Nicole. No doubt, he died a happy man. Comparing the numbers of Anna Nicole's birth name VICKIE LYNN HOGAN to those of JAMES HOWARD MARSHALL reveals one important significator of compatibility between their names. The vowels in Anna Nicole's birth name add up to 19/10/1. This sum is called the soul urge in numerology.  As 1 is the number of self and the soul urge number is what motivates a person, we can conclude that with number 1  as a soul urge, Anna Nicole was always looking out for number 1 and that she admired people who have drive, are go getters, leaders. independent, self reliant, masculine, and courageous --- the very qualities that James Howard Marshall's quiet self, (i.e. the sum of his consonants) of number 1 projects. The quiet self has an illusionary quality about it, as it is an image of how you appear to others. You could say that there was a bit of hero worship in Anna's attraction to J. Howard Marshall. This hero worship is only intensified by the fact that the name J.Howard Marshall, which the billionaire oilman was commonly called, adds up to the number 1.

     I would think that the media would leave no stone unturned in it's pursuit of information (and gossip) related to Anna Nicole and her significant others. However, in the case of LARRY BIRKHEAD, little has been revealed to the world about his background. As of this writing (February 26,2007), my usual reference sources have no information about his full name at birth.  However, I did discover that Larry Birkhead was born on January 22, 1973 with a life path number of 7 which does match the 7 expression number (the sum of all the letters in a name) of Anna Nicole Smith's birth name. Vickie Lynn Hogan. This is one indicator of compatibility between these sometime lovers...but it's not a tie that guarantees a binding relationship. What it does tell us is that these are two people who both needed periodic times by themselves and that they would understand and respect the other's need for privacy, for alone time.

    Ancestry.com gives a name of LARRY  E. BIRKHEAD  for Larry Birkhead, but does that middle initial stand for something or is Larry E. Birkhead his full name of birth, or is Larry short for Lawrence?. My task would be made easier if Larry would tell someone in the media what his birth name is, but as it stands now, I would hesitate to go out on a limb and make definitive statements about their compatibility or lack of it. For indeed, the facts of the matter are that after an on-again/off again two year relationship between Anna Nicole and Larry, a pregnant Anna Nicole abruptly left Larry alone with his memories, fantasies, and longings to pursue a new life in the Bahamas without him. After May 2006, he was never to see her again.

    When Larry's name of birth is definitively revealed, I will revisit and rewrite this piece on Anna Nicole and Larry. Does the fact that the world knows Larry as "Larry Birkhead" tell us something? Well, it does tell us how the world perceives Larry -- and keep in mind,  what the world  sees in not necessarily the real Larry Birkhead.  With 14/5 as a soul urge, "Larry Birkhead" would seek sex, excitement and adventure in life. He would be something of an opportunist, ready to capitalize on what chance threw his way. At the same time, this name adds up to 6, indicating that he  is solicitous, caring, a provider, someone who is a parental, and a shoulder to cry on -- a person who gladly assumes the burdens of  loved ones.

     As "Larry E. Birkhead", he would have the same #1 soul urge (the sum of the vowels in a name) as Vickie Lynn Hogan, a sure indicator that these two did indeed have something in common, but then again 1 is the number of self-interest, so we would have two people, each looking out for number one. As Larry E. Birkhead, adds up to 11/2, he would be a person who is courteous. diplomatic, sensitive, and quite mindful of the sensitivities of others. With the number 1 on the inside (1 soul urge). he would be independent and self-reliant, but with 2 on the outside (2 expression), he would be accommodating and eager to please. In other words, he is a person with a iron fist hiding in a velvet glove.

    The birth name and birth date of Howard K. Stern are known to the world. He was born on 11/29/1968, a birth date that adds up to the number 1, indicating that his life path or destiny is to find and then do his own thing. His full name at birth, Howard Kevin Stern adds up to the number 8, the number of the wheeler-dealer. All people with an 8 expression (i.e. the sum of all the letters in a name) have a good head for business and are blessed with financial acumen (this is true even if Howard says he's broke now and living off money from his parents). The fact that Howard's expression is the same number as Anna Nicole Smith's life path number of 8 (her birthdate 11/28/1967=8) indicates that Howard had the ability to make money for Anna Nicole.

Years ago Howard K. Stern  began his legal work for Anna Nicole, reviewing her business contracts. They didn't actually meet until 1996. Besides working on her legal case involving her inheritance, he negotiated her personal appearances. Though apparently inseparable, in 2002, they both said they were close friends, but their relationship was platonic, no monkey business. Shortly after her son Daniel's death in September, 2006,  the last pictures taken of Daniel, while he was alive, were sold to a photo agency for around $650,000. Soon thereafter, Anna and Howard held their "commitment ceremony" in the Bahamas in order to sell the photos taken there to People  magazine for one million dollars. To my way of thinking, this "commitment ceremony" was more about money than love. Howard, with his moneymaking expression number 8, and Anna, with her 8 life path number, were a good business team.

But was there a romantic relationship between Anna and Howard? If so, it certainly wasn't love at first sight, as it wasn't until this past year that Anna announced that she and this man whom she had known for 11 years had become an item, that in fact, they had been secret lovers during the last 2 years. -- the same period of time during which she had a romance with Larry Birkhead and intimate encounters with her ex-bodyguard, Alexander Denk, real estate developer G. Benjamin Thompson, and who knows whom else.

What though was the spark that brought these two together as lovers?  As stated by Anna in an interview with TV's Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, in late October, 2006, as reported by People.com, November 2, 2006 "I just kind of attacked him and that was it. I kissed him first. He was the shy one." And then she added  "He was like, 'I can't, I can't,' because he always had to go by the books.... I knew I was in love the first time I kissed him."  

People always speak their numbers, so let's translate Anna's statement above into the language of numerology. An analysis of her birth name reveals that her soul urge (the sum of the vowels of her full name at birth), was the number 1. People with a 1 soul urge are aggressive, impulsive, and assertive, so it should come as no surprise that Anna initiated this romance. On the other hand, people like Howard Kevin Stern who were born with a 4 soul urge, are cautious, go by the books, and are slow to reveal their feelings.  Here we have the interplay between the numbers 1 and 4 in a relationship.

Usually, this is not a good combination for compatibility. 1 is fire and 4 is ice. Fire melts the ice, but the ice then turns to water, and the water puts the fire out.  As I wrote in my book The Little Giant Encyclopedia of Numerology:

     "4 won't take kindly to 1's need to dominate, and 1 may feel stifled by 4's rigidity and need to control. 1 can be impetuous and 4 can be overly cautious"

The potential incompatibility of Anna's 1 soul urge and Howard's 4 soul urge is partially mitigated by the fact that Howard has number 1 as his life path or destiny number. What this means is that the very number 1 qualities of Anna Nicole that he may have unconsciously or intentionally stifled are the very qualities that he will need to develop to meet the challenges and potentials of his 1 life path number - that is the courage to be yourself, to fight for what you believe in, to stand on your own two feet, to be alone without being lonely.  These qualities are the true inheritance that has been given to him by Anna Nicole Smith.  Now, Howard is alone, and now it is time for Howard to meet his destiny.

More About Anna Nicole Smith and her significant others

    In making chart comparisons between two people, it is customary to use the birth names of the individuals involved, for it is the name at birth that reveals our true selves. If a person changes their name, it is much like an actor who takes on a new persona with each new role that he or she plays.  In some instances, when a small child is renamed, he or she does take on the characteristics of the new name, but in most instances the name of birth continues to resonate in our lives no matter what other names we go by. Usually, the numbers of the new name indicate what qualities we are currently accenting and often we will attract people and new opportunities in our lives that are reflective of the name change.

Vickie Lynn Hogan decided on the stage name of Anna Nicole Smith in 1993, when she was 26 years old. The name she was using when she achieved her initial success as a Playboy centerfold in 1992 was Vickie Smith; the following year when she became Playmate of the year, she became Anna Nicole Smith ( but note, she did not change her name legally.....to the world, she had become Anna Nicole, but to her friends and family, she was still Vickie).

When Howard K Stern met her in 1996, the voluptuous Anna Nicole was known as Vickie Lynn Marshall (her married name) aka Anna Nicole Smith. I wonder, though if silently Howard fell in love with the image of Anna Nicole Smith, a name that has a 13/4 soul urge, the same as his own 13/4 soul urge. In addition,  her 13/4 expression number ( the full name of Anna Nicole Smith) also matches his13/4 soul urge. Perhaps, these facts help to explain why a co-dependency relationship developed between Anna and Howard over time.

    If a simple name change were all that it takes to make two people compatible, then we would have the happy situation of Howard and Anna both sharing the number 13/4 as soul urges. Throw in the fact that the baby Dannielynne also has 13/4 soul urge: then we would have one happy family of three people living together who all had a 13/4 soul urge. (For readers wondering how Dannielynne and Howard get along, the answer is just fine...for they both have the same soul urges.)

However, I don't think Vickie Lynn Hogan really ever became Anna Nicole Smith, a name whose soul urge adds up to 4 and indicates that its bearer wants to be conservative, practical, hard working, down-to-earth, and together. With 4 also as her expression, she would be a realist,  a person who is also systematic, orderly, self-disciplined, conventional,  and perhaps a square. Certainly, that was not the image she projected on her reality TV show. Though 4 is the number of the reality principle, the reality she projected on that show was not that of 4, but rather of the expression number of her birth name , i.e 16/7, the number that I find is sometimes associated with alcohol and drug abuse.

It was an Anna Nicole with slurred speech who appeared sedated like a zombie sleepwalking with an entourage of her purple haired assistant,  Howard K Smith, and a miniature dog in tow on the first episode of The Anna Nicole Show. This scenario did not reflect the self-disciplined, conservative, orderly, and systematic qualities of the number 4, that the name Anna Nicole Smith adds up to, but rather it is the image of 16/7 gone awry -- a Vickie Lynne Hogan (expression 16/7) stoned out of her mind.

Much has been written about Anna Nicole and her problems with prescription drugs: of how she spent time at the Betty Ford Cliniic to get herself clean; another hospital stay for the same reason; how she acted inappropriately at a Music Awards ceremony (onlookers suspecting that her odd behavior was due to drugs); how Larry Birkhead believes that the reason Anna Nicole left him was that he insisted she clean up her act, especially since she was pregnant; and finally, how Howard K. Stern has been accused of being an enabler and that he should have done something to get her help.

We get a glimpse though of how serious Anna Nicole's drug problems were from a statement Howard made on the Larry King show regarding Anna Nicole's habit. He adminstered her drugs himself, because he feared that if she were in charge of her pill popping, she might accidentally OD. The final coroner's report is in -- we do know for certain that Anna Nicole Smith died by drugs. However, we also know  that Anna Nicole lived by drugs -- that is the real tragedy.
